The II Workshop on the Origin, Distribution, and Fate of Marine Litter in the Atlantic (Atlitter 2024) will take place on December 12th, 2024, in Santa Cruz de Tenerife at the Canary Islands Oceanographic Centre, part of the Spanish Institute of Oceanography (IEO-CSIC).
This one-day event follows the successful first edition, held in November 2023, and will once again bring together leading researchers, practitioners, and policymakers to address the pressing issue of marine litter in the Atlantic Ocean. Participants will have the opportunity to engage in invited lectures, oral presentations, and poster sessions, all designed to foster collaboration and share the latest findings on marine debris research.

Atlitter 2024 will offer a comprehensive program featuring discussions on the physical and chemical processes that influence the transport and accumulation of marine litter, with a particular focus on the Atlantic Ocean and the Canary Islands region.
The workshop will serve as a platform for exchanging knowledge on innovative solutions to mitigate the impact of marine litter and highlight the challenges and opportunities in this field of research.
The workshop will offer a unique chance to learn from experts, including invited speakers from prestigious institutions. The sessions will cover a range of topics such as plastic pollution, microplastic transport, and marine debris monitoring.
Through this collaborative effort, Atlitter 2024 aims to deepen the understanding of the global marine litter problem and contribute to the development of strategies for its management and reduction.
